Shazam! Movie Review

The after effects of most of the DCEU films have been so chronic that I have always entered the theatre with apprehension and a genuine worry for my sanity. But even after having the lowest possible expectations, films like Justice League provided a new low. So when I saw the trailer of Shazam!, I was naturally skeptical. But as it turns out, Shazam! offers a lot of good things, and above all, it is hugely entertaining. ...

Joker Teaser Trailer

Joaquin Phoenix as Joker

Warner Bros. released the teaser trailer of Joker starring the magnificent Joaquin Phoenix alongside the legendary Robert De Niro. The film is the first of its kind origin story as it is focused on an iconic comic book villain rather than a hero. The trailer looks freaky and early signs are that Joaquin Phoenix is a fantastic choice for this role. Phoenix plays a failed comedian who is ridiculed by society, eventually going insane and turning to a life of crime. The film is set to be inspired by executive producer Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and King of Comedy. Directed by Todd Phillips who was an interesting choice for the film since this will be his first action/drama having largely directed out n out comedies like The Hangover Series, Raod Trip, Starsky and Hutch etc. The film releases on 4th October in India. ...

Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota Movie Review

Abhimanyu Radhika

Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota (MKDNH), written and directed by Vasan Bala is an unusual Hindi film. That's because it is really difficult to classify it into a specific category. It is an action dramedy but it is also a satire and above all, a love letter to the whole action genre of the '70s & '80s, especially martial arts films. Much to its credit, the references in the film stretch far beyond the '80s and Bollywood. There are elements that celebrate legends like Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan apart from multiple shoutouts to genre-defining films like Drunken Master, Big Trouble in Little China, Rocky and many more.   ...

Captain Marvel Movie Review

Captain marvel carol dancers
Directed By: Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck
Cast: Brie Larson, Samuel L Jackson, Jude Law, Clark Greg

MCU is now in its final-final leg. This is it, the home stretch, 'the end game', and Captain Marvel serves as an important thread to round it all. Marvel Cinematic Universe, now in its 21st film has done it all. There have been multiple origin-stories & follow-ups, a pseudo-Avenger film, and 3 Avenger films. The MCU is now the biggest movie franchise of all time (Box-office collections of over $17Bn) and will serve as a benchmark for not just creating an entertainment juggernaut, but also being able to see many years into the future.  However, with every new film, the expectations inch up, the stakes rise, and detractors multiply. And as with everything in life, the law of averages is bound to come into force, sooner or later. Unfortunate as it may be, Captain Marvel will fall into the lower end of MCU film spectrum, with the likes of Iron Man 3, GoG Vol 2 and Thor: The Dark World. But I will get there in a bit, first some background. ...
