The Old Guard 2 is a perfectly decent action sequel that does not quite reach the bar set by the first film.
Charlize Theron is as committed as ever, and Uma Thurman is a strong addition to the cast. The new character dynamics are interesting and the action sequences are well-executed. The problem is the story has less to say. The first film had a genuinely interesting premise about immortality and the weight of living forever. The second is more focused on plot mechanics than on the emotional texture that made the original compelling.
Worth watching if you liked the first. Not essential if you did not. The Old Guard 2 feels like it exists because the first one performed well on Netflix rather than because there was a story that needed to be told.
