F1 is exactly what it looks like: a big, loud, technically extraordinary piece of cinema that gives you the Formula 1 experience like nothing on screen has before.
Brad Pitt plays a retired driver brought back for one last run. The story is familiar and you know where it is going from early on — but that is kind of the point. This film was never about surprising you with the plot. It is about putting you in the car. Director Joseph Kosinski, who knows exactly how to shoot visceral physical cinema, delivers on that completely. The race sequences are extraordinary. The sound design alone justifies the theatrical experience.
Javier Bardem is excellent as the team principal. Damson Idris holds his own against Pitt in every scene they share. F1 does not pretend to be a complex film. It is a genuinely thrilling piece of pure cinema. See it loud. See it big.
