Saiyaara had the kind of build-up that sets a film up to either really land or really disappoint. It is a mixed bag.
The performances are the strongest part. The lead actors do what is asked of them and then some. The direction has ambition and the cinematography gives the film a visual quality that stands out on Netflix. The music works. But the overall arc of the story has problems in the writing. You can feel the potential that is not quite being realised, and at the runtime it runs, that frustration builds.
Worth watching once for the craft on display in individual scenes. Just do not expect a completely satisfying story from start to finish.
