A Noir Whodunit

Raat Akeli Hai is an investigative thriller that beautifully mixes the classic 'whodunit' with noir elements. It is the debut film for Director Honey Trehan, making this the second directorial debut for a casting director this month (Dil Bechara was the first). The film stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, playing Inspector Jatil Yadav, the unmarried cop with old school ideologies about the appropriate life partner. In true noir style, Jatil is a loner who gets smitten by the key suspect, Radha, played by Radhika Apte. Every scene they have together is oozing with unbridled chemistry and is a treat to watch.  ...  More

Sacred-Games-600x333

Since the time Netflix announced Sacred Games, there has been a lot of anticipation around it. After all, it stars Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddique, and Radhika Apte. Add to that, the director duo, Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane. Anticipating and excitement are automatic with such names behind the project.

“Never before have we seen mainstream actors leaving the big screen for a streaming service. Saif and Nawaz have stepped up and this could well be a game changer for the entire Industry.”

This is not ‘just another show’ from Netflix. There is a lot riding on this apart from money. Netflix did not go the Amazon route and launch the service with a big Indian show like Inside Edge. Thank god for that. Even though the cast of the show was decent, it just was not up to the standards. From production to acting to storyline, it was all very premature. However, with Sacred Games, Netflix may have just waited the right amount of time and based this series on a plethora of data they would have mined from India.

Netflix has started on the right note. The trailer looks stunning with some great production value and intensity of the premise comes through. Let’s hope it delivers and opens the floodgates for many more shows. That may just be the turnaround Indian Television needs.
