Upload Season 1 Review

upload blog

Upload is a new Amazon Original series starring Robbie Amell and Andy Allo. I would classify it as a sci-fi rom-com satire, and that makes it quite novel. I will be honest, I started the show because I was looking for a guilty pleasure. I am sure we all watch shows which we know are slightly stupid or obvious or just easy. I do it when I don’t want to indulge. At that time, I want to watch something easy and even pick up my phone to check a notification or two, without having to worry about what I have missed. Based on the trailer, I was confident that I have found it, but halfway through the first episode, I was so smitten that I did not want to look at my phone, even when it was ringing. Clearly, I was wrong, and as luck would have it, Upload turned out to be sheer serendipity. ...  More

Klaus Movie Review

klaus blog

Animated films are a great way for the entire family to get together. Most of them (and especially the good ones) are heartwarming, entertaining and illuminating. For people with kids, it is a sure-shot way to keep them entertained and impart an important life lesson or two in the process. Klaus is well equipped to do all of that very well. ...  More

Njan Prakashan (Malayalam) Movie Review

njan 4

Njan Prakashan (transl. I am Prakashan) is hilarious from the word go. Prakashan or P.R. Akash, as he likes to be known, is a superbly written character. He comes across as someone who is lazy, pretentious, a compulsive liar, and highly insecure. Prakashan, I mean P.R. Akash, hopes to land a secure comfortable job abroad. For that, he makes all the efforts to court a simple girl who has landed a job in Germany. How things pan out for Prakashan, oops, P.R. Akash, and where he goes from there, is what the film is all about.  ...  More

Kaamyaab Movie Review

Kaamyaab movie poster

Luck by Chance (2009) was one of the finest films made on the 'insides of the Hindi Film Industry' (and one of my all-time favourites). There is a scene in Luck by Chance, where Mac Mohan is invited to the graduation ceremony of a small acting school. In that scene, one of the students requests him to enact Sambha's famous dialogue from Sholay. Like a good sport, Mac Mohan obliges, and says, "Poore Pachaas Hazaar". Students clap and sing loud praises -end scene-. Our character artists, the ones who support our stars and our storylines, have unfortunately been reduced to this. And the emotions at display in this particular scene are only the tip of the iceberg. The rest is hidden deep down, under layers of glamour, stardom, presumptions and hypocrisy.  ...  More

The Invisible Man (2020) Movie Review

invisible man poster

The Invisible Man (Book) was written by HG wells over 100 years ago, way back in 1897. This story was ahead of its time, just like all other works of Wells (Time Machine, War of the Worlds). Such is the strength of the original, that people are able to create fresh content that is as relevant as ever. ...  More
