Captain Marvel Movie Review

Directed By: Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck
Cast: Brie Larson, Samuel L Jackson, Jude Law, Clark Greg

MCU is now in its final-final leg. This is it, the home stretch, 'the end game', and Captain Marvel serves as an important thread to round it all. Marvel Cinematic Universe, now in its 21st film has done it all. There have been multiple origin-stories & follow-ups, a pseudo-Avenger film, and 3 Avenger films. The MCU is now the biggest movie franchise of all time (Box-office collections of over $17Bn) and will serve as a benchmark for not just creating an entertainment juggernaut, but also being able to see many years into the future.  However, with every new film, the expectations inch up, the stakes rise, and detractors multiply. And as with everything in life, the law of averages is bound to come into force, sooner or later. Unfortunate as it may be, Captain Marvel will fall into the lower end of MCU film spectrum, with the likes of Iron Man 3, GoG Vol 2 and Thor: The Dark World. But I will get there in a bit, first some background. ...  More

Sonchiriya Movie Review

sonchiriya poster sushant singh bhumi manoj bajpayee

On the surface, Sonchiriya, directed by Abhishek Chaubey, is a dacoit vs police story from the 70s. Underneath, however, there are multiple elements at play. It is paced like a psychological thriller, with splendid action sequences shot to perfection, neatly wrapped in a non-cliched revenge saga. Back in the day, when mainstream actors played dacoits, the story usually came bundled with the 'Halaat' and 'Majbooris' of why and how they joined the dark side of the 70s. Sonchiriya has no such backstories or explanations and I loved that. Honestly, there were a lot of things I loved in the film but I will start with my most favourite.  ...  More

Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga – Movie Review

ek ladki sonam kapoor rajkumar rao

I really wanted to watch this film since I saw the trailer. Not because of the star-cast (which is no doubt impressive) but because I really wanted to see how the subject of homosexuality will be handled in this new era of Hindi Cinema. I sincerely believe we have moved far ahead of the mockery that was shown in Dostana. Unfortunately, when it comes to Ek Ladki Ko Dekha..., the idea of creating a new-age romance that transcends boundaries was possibly limited to the creator's vision. It never gets translated into the actual film. So Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga is a massive opportunity gone lost. It will only be a spot even when it had the opportunity to paint the entire canvas, for generations to admire. ...  More

Gully Boy Official Trailer

Gully Boy Poster Ranveer Alia

I want to start with a confession. When I saw this trailer, I was compelled to post about it instantly. However, when I was going about setting up the post, I realized, I am at a loss of words. That's because Gully Boy Official Trailer is beyond any adjectives I can come up with. I mean, I went crazy looking at the teaser but even then, this is even better. ...  More

Best Hindi Films of 2018

filmyfool best hindi films of 2018

Another year comes to an end and for me, this has been the break-out year for small films. As I was compiling my list of best Hindi Films of 2018, I realised that there are no big films featuring in it. No Khans, no big budgets, no multi-starrers. Instead, what I have are 10 films which have great story-telling. Some use the intrinsic qualities of the actor to create memorable moments, others push the actors into alien territory, hence, creating magic.  So here are my best Hindi films of 2018 in no particular order. ...  More
