Dil Bechara – A Biased Movie Review

dil-bechara

Dil Bechara is the last time we see Sushant Singh Rajput on screen. But like so many other things 2020 has taken away from us, being able to see Sushant on the big screen in his last film is also one of them. Hence, there is absolutely no way Dil Bechara can be reviewed in an unbiased manner. And I don't want to try and fool myself thinking that it is possible. The only way forward is to embrace it, and so, this is a completely biased review of Dil Bechara.  ...  More

Upload Season 1 Review

upload blog

Upload is a new Amazon Original series starring Robbie Amell and Andy Allo. I would classify it as a sci-fi rom-com satire, and that makes it quite novel. I will be honest, I started the show because I was looking for a guilty pleasure. I am sure we all watch shows which we know are slightly stupid or obvious or just easy. I do it when I don’t want to indulge. At that time, I want to watch something easy and even pick up my phone to check a notification or two, without having to worry about what I have missed. Based on the trailer, I was confident that I have found it, but halfway through the first episode, I was so smitten that I did not want to look at my phone, even when it was ringing. Clearly, I was wrong, and as luck would have it, Upload turned out to be sheer serendipity. ...  More

C/o Kancharapalem Movie Review (2018, Telugu)

Kancharapalem

Made on a shoe-string budget of around 70 Lakhs, C/o Kancharapalem brings us 4 love stories that vary across age, religion, caste and social status. It is a fine example of how you can make an excellent film without big stars and big budgets. All you need is good writing and a lot of heart. C/o Kancharapalem has plenty of both. The characters are so endearing and you will see it right up front, as little Sundaram waits in the rain with his friend to catch a glimpse of his classmate Sunitha. Sundaram’s smile when he sees Sunitha approaching, Sunitha and her friend approaching in slow motion carrying an umbrella, the shots done through the rain and the sheer innocence of it all. Just like Sundaram, I lost my heart right there. ...  More

Fleabag Review

fleabag blog must watch

Finally, a show where I can safely declare, 'The finest piece of writing...ever', without any qualms. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, please take a bow, for creating, writing and performing Fleabag. She created the idea of Fleabag due to a challenge by a friend, where she had to create a 10 min sketch for a stand-up storytelling night. Waller-Bridge followed this up by creating a 'one-woman play' and performing it in 2013. Season 1 of Fleabag released in 2016 and the second one streamed in 2019. Even though the show has received massive acclaim and fan following, Phoebe Waller-Bridge as all but confirmed that this is the end for the show.  ...  More

Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga – Movie Review

ek ladki sonam kapoor rajkumar rao

I really wanted to watch this film since I saw the trailer. Not because of the star-cast (which is no doubt impressive) but because I really wanted to see how the subject of homosexuality will be handled in this new era of Hindi Cinema. I sincerely believe we have moved far ahead of the mockery that was shown in Dostana. Unfortunately, when it comes to Ek Ladki Ko Dekha..., the idea of creating a new-age romance that transcends boundaries was possibly limited to the creator's vision. It never gets translated into the actual film. So Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga is a massive opportunity gone lost. It will only be a spot even when it had the opportunity to paint the entire canvas, for generations to admire. ...  More
